I have been wanting to build my own pc for a while now, and i have build a minor one in the past, but nothing worthy of gaming. I have been selecting parts for a while now and I chose the Intel Core i7-3770K as my CPU. I only have 2 problems though, I don't know how to overclock or the compatable memory. I selected some memory for this thread in hope that it might work with it. Thanks!

This might take awhile...... ;) it's not like the old days, you go into the BIOS, to the advanced page, find the DRAM settings, ENABLE XMP, select profile 1 and ..........well, that's it ;) save boot and take a look in Windows using CPU-Z, should be at 2133

Sorry for semi-necroing thread but I'm new to this forum and I have no idea how to message you personally. I'm in the middle of putting a system together and I need some help/advice. I, like the OP are going with a Intel Core i7 3770K.
Now according to Intel's support, the CPU only supports 1333/1600Mhz RAM and I was told that it would NOT go higher. Are you 100% sure that I could get the 2133MHz out of a memory kit? Because I was eyeballing a Corsair Dominator 2133Mhz 16GB (4x4) kit which is extremely fast but also matches my color scheme.

It would really suck if I buy a 2133Mhz kit and only get about 1600MHz out of it!

Hope this wasn't too confusing.

Best regards,
Jimmy

Intel is very staid and don't support OCing, 1300/1600 is their base spec for the CPUs, I would wager I have over 40 builds with the 3770K and I haven't used 1600 on any of them, everyone has wanted minimum of 1866 most 2133 and quite a few 2400/2666..........I run a 3570K and am running 32GB of 2400 on it
