I have always wanted to supercharge my laptop, just I don't know what i'm doing and the motherboard cant handle any more ram than it has. Can someone help me with how to get started?

You would have to find a barebones laptop that comes with the chassis, lcd, power brick, and motherboard. Then you would just buy your own CPU, ram, video card, etc. Every time I looked into it further it usually just ended up costing about the same as the prebuilt, parts are much harder to find and the warranties usually suck. With laptops you can't really just buy a diferent motherboard to throw in your old laptop they are built specifically for a certain chassis.

Beyond replacing ram, there is hardly anything you can do =[
Some laptops you can swap processors, but they are prohibitively expensive, and would be a small upgrade, and some gaming focused laptops allow swapping graphics cards, but I can imagine those would be very pricy.
Likely your best bet is to save up for a better laptop :(

You might be able to speed things up with a SSD
