Looking for new CPU heatsink/fan to quiet down my machine (i think)

My system has been running rather loud lately and I need a way to quiet 'er down.

I have 2 pretty big case fans and a PSU fan.. don't think that's the problem. I am not totally sure how loud the GPU fan is.. it may be a problem bc the system gets rather loud when doing intensive gaming (tho that could still be cpu), but the CPU is definitely making an unfortunate amount of noise even under no load, so Im thinking my best bet will be to replace that with something larger?beefier?smoother?more controllable? and maybe upgrade from the stock heatsink so the fan is less necessary.

Does that make sense as a first quieting step? anything else I could try before or after that?
And what's a great heatsink/fan combo if that is the best way to go?

Well place to start is get the correct tool .... curl on ya thumb and other 3 fingers and use ya index finger to momentarily stop each fan one by one. The one that cuts the most noise is where ya start.

If ya want quiet be sure to avoid the H series coolers from Corsair ..... they are very very loud

However, this performance comes at a cost; noise. At 2600RPM, the H100 isn’t a quiet unit at all and similarly at 2000RPM, it can still be quite intrusive. In terms of performance per noise, high end air coolers from Phanteks, Noctua and Thermalright still reign supreme, contrary to Corsair’s own marketing. Like other ALC units, the H100 relies too much on high RPM fans for its performance when the goal of water cooling is generally for extreme performance at low noise levels.

I have installed both the Phanteks and Silver Arrow more than once and tho they get similar results on a sound meter, the Silver Arrow "seems" the quieter of the two.

The newegg filtering is weird.. only getting CoolerMaster back for that even though I see other AM3 stuff on the site.. nonetheless thank you! Haven't seen pcpartpicker.com before.



I hadn't really thought of water cooling.. I thought that was mostly left to the crazy overclockers (my system is not overclocked) but may look into that.



I did the finger test.. definitely the CPU fan.. time for it to go!
I guess I'm not sure.. since I'm not OCing.. what level of cooling power I should be looking for. I feel like some of the real expensive solutions may be overkill in my situation
