Hi all.
I'm buying a GTX 770, and might be going SLI in the future. My question is, say, if I'm buying one GTX 770 2GB and one GTX 770 4GB for SLI, how much will the usable vram be? 6GB, 3GB, or 2GB? Thank you

Thanks both of you! Now I understand that the model and memory have to match, and if somehow different models work together, the vram will be of the GPU with the least vram. Correct me if I'm wrong

That's the way it used to be, but Nvidia is pretty emphatic now about both cards needing to have the same size memory to work in SLI at all. I wouldn't risk the purchase until someone that has such a setup can verify Nvidia is wrong.

I won't risk it either. Anyway, I decided now to buy a GTX 770 4GB, so if in the future I need to SLI, and if future games demand more vram (I'm aware that atm, 2gb vram suffice most games), I will buy another GTX 770 4GB. This way,I'm covered :D
Thank you

Looks like a nice system. You realize of course, that with a single stick of memory, your memory will only run in single channel? Not a huge loss, mostly on paper.

You will never use all that VRAM at 1080p. Even 2GB is overkill on all but the most texture-demanding games. But textures are getting more and more demanding. And certain AA schemes do require more memory than others. Nevertheless, 4GB is never going to be used at that rez unless some 'next big thing' comes along we aren't aware of today.

Thanks :)
Yes I do realize that about the single channel RAM, but I'm just being cheap and that single channel solution is the cheapest I could find :p
Yea you know what, I've just un-bought the GTX 770 and am looking for a GTX 780 right now. hahaha.. Will cost me a fortune though
