your chip works with DDR3 1866 and DDR3 1600 ...

best go for DDR3 1866 for fastest results.

also I need to know your motherboard choice , if it is a new machine , get 990FX chipset and not lower

if you havent bought it yet better get 990FX chipset ,

her is the list of supported ram on your mobo :

http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme4/?cat=Memory

choose memory from the list you will be fine :)

and pick 1866 ..

if you did not buythe mobo tell me.

So the corsair vengeance black 1600 wouldn't work? I don't have the cash for an 1866.

Legenda in Aeternum
The 'supported' memory on that list is whatever they have laying around that will run at the mobos default of 133 - in other words if a set is 1600 or 1866 they simply test it at 1333 - so there is no way of knowing for sure if it will work at the true freq.

Also mentioned above, inaccurately, is that it is the mobo not the CPU that determines what DRAM you can run.....the mobo can handle most any DRAM..it's the CPU and it's MC (memory controller) that determines what DRAM you can run, you can't take say a plain jane 3570 and go run 2800 sticks with it at it's given spec any more than you can take a AMD 4100 and run 2133 DRAM with it at it's given spec

Does not mean it will not work , it means not tested .. the test report will say to you what will not work.

try www.Crucial.com and see if they tested a module on that motherboard :

by the way 99% memories work if you pick the same specs .. but when I give Advice I dont want to fall into the 1% lol thats all :)

here is your FX-6300 , it supports DDR3 1866

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-6300.html

The number of controllers: 1
Memory channels: 2
Supported memory: DDR3-1866
Other peripherals HyperTransport technology ?

and dont worry the DDR3 1866 is the same price , but you need to look for lowest price ...

here are the 1866 lowest prices , :)
