Looking to upgrade my HPCompaq dc5800 Microtower

Solution
Depends on what you mean by "gaming". It has a 3 gig dual core CPU which is OK, a pretty small hard drive, 2 gig of RAM which you'd want to upgrade to 4 and space for a video card.

If you are Ok with lower quality on newer games, you can get a Radeon 7750 card, 2 more gig of RAM and do some gaming on the system for about $100. Anything past that you are looking at $300+ for a new power supply, faster quad core CPU, more RAM, newer faster hard drive, and video card. A new low end gaming computer is about $600 from scratch, you can't really re-use anything in your system except maybe the hard drive and case.

do you think i could run gta 4 with that graphics card?

This PC is built on an old chipset motherboard... it runs slow RAM, older CPU that is far from the newer ones, but at least does have a pci-e slot. Either you keep it cause you are low on money and upgrade with a good GPU and some RAM, or else you got more money and you might think about changing everything. Anyway I wouldn't expect too much from this one on new games. But for GTA 4, with a new GPU and not even more RAM, you would be able to run it.

one more question if i want a new processor like quad core or eight core will i need a new motherboard and psu? and how hard will that be to install

Yes you will need a need motherboard, maybe even a new PSU, and the motherboard switch will also bring a RAM switch, and then you might find your computer running too hot and have to change the case. That's the point where you should rather just build an entire new one.

ok i understand what your saying thanks a lot i'll just have to wait a little more but this graphics card was a good buy for now

You should be able to install a Q series quad core CPU, but it's probably not worth it. Better to just get a new system in a few years. I think 4 gig of RAM will be better than a new CPU.
