I've got a Gigabyte 990fxa ud3, and the ram is only running at 1333 i tried the XMP profile and it didn't boot and had to reset the bios. What settings do i have to change?

Solution

You must go at least at 1600 mhz... 1866 possible.

In italian site, Gigabyte writes:

"Support for DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules
*To support a DDR3 1866 MHz (and above) memory, you must install an AMD...

CPU ? With FX 8150, 4 modules, max is 1333 mhz, 2 modules 1600. With FX 8350, 1600 both for 2 or 4 modules. XMP is for Intel (i've in my Sabertooth 990FX V 1.0 too, but can't use)

You have AM3+. In my config (8350, 4x 8 GB Corsair 1866) i've only changed ddr speed for have 4 modules 1600 mhz

Is your CPU overclocked? You should be able to run 1866 as your MB can run up to 2000. And yes you can run XMP it is not just for INTEL, I use it with my 8350.

It's not overclocked, i also tried manually putting in the value's that XMP suggested and it didn't work

First of all....for all intents and purposes, most all AM3+ mobos can run 1866 - the big thing that matters is can your CPU and even more so can your CPUs MC (memory controller) run 1866....regardless of AMD's 'marketing' the FX CPUs can run 1866, but with most it takes a serious OC...the 8350, 8150, 8320 and some 8120s generally can carry 2 sticks of 1866, after that it's hit or miss, some 6300's can others can't, most 4100s simply can't

What you can try is enable XMP, then raise the DRAM voltage + 0.05 over spec (so if 1.5 sticks go 1.55), and also raise the MC (memory controller) voltage up initially to 1.3 (may take more or less), MC voltage is normally referred to as CPU/NB or CPU NB VDD
