I installed 2 g ram, 1g per stick and it ran fine for months. Then it was running much slower, checked System Properties and it says 512mg, BIOS still at 2gb. Ram correct per Crucial.com
Thanks for the response. Replaced RAM and it's fixed. I don't know why 512mg remained operable with the bad Ram but good thing it did. I even ran memtest86 on the bad and it told me 512mg was OK but didn't mention the missing 1.5g
Right click on the computer icon on the desktop, goto properties. Does it say something like "reserved for hardware" for the ram in the system section? Does it show 2GB alt all there. "reserved for hardware" points to faulty ram.
