CPU usage spiking high with any small program...why?

Alright well I have an intel i5 2400k processor and, to my knowledge, it's never been in risky situations like overheating. Moreover it worked fine a week ago. However after downloading Skyrim recently, the cpu has been eaten up by almost any program- downloading a torrent, extracting files from a zip, and heck even watching a youtube video cause the usage to spike from 0-10% to 100% and eventually make the computer shut off by itself. However, occasionally it will sit at a low number even when I perform a number of tasks before skyrocketing back up to 100% or in the high 90's.

I ran several scans, ran a defrag, chkdsk, memtest86, and they all came out clean. No program is initially eating a lot of the usage either, since it sits at a low number until I start using software.

I'm not really sure what to suspect except for a cpu problem but again I'm not sure why that would occur either.

Flash Player Plugging_11_7 is the culprit here. Try to uninstall flash player plugging for both (IE, Firefox) and then reinstall it again. This link will help you : http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

And I am looking for some day that the utility keeps coming back no matter you have the latest update or not. If it comes back and appear on processes tab just end the process. Try to update Firefox to the latest version, of course if you haven't done it.

One more thing if nothing solve the problem then try to format and clean install of OS. Good Luck.

That's exactly my problem :\ task manager isn't lying, those small little processes are using an asinine amount of my cpu for very small stuff. Things that this build did in a breeze a week ago. I thought it was the RAM at first, and while a good chunk of it is being used up, I have no clue as why running two-three videos puts the comp at risk of shutting itself off due to 100% cpu usage.

And I'm not sure how any virus could slip by at this point; I've scared with BitDefender Total Security, Spybot, Malware Bytes, and Ad Aware. I can't really think of better resources at this point.

Alright np, I actually got two to demonstrate the massive leap.

First is the system upon loading- to note, I actually did recently remove most on-start up programs, but the number is consistent with what what happened after a start up with all those programs anyway, always <10% cpu usage.

Then I opened a random video on firefox and started quick scan on bit defender.

Thanks for the links will try those right now!
