dell dimension dxp061

nvidia geforce gt 520
4gb of ram
intel pentium d 3.6ghz
500gb hdd
windows vista

that includes the cpu upgrade and I think the slight ram upgrade. what needs to be upgraded so that it can play games without lagging? the main game it is used for is League of Legends, it plays fine in the game it just takes forever to load in and sometimes the framerate will drop. I think the video card has been upgraded once before as well. is it worth it to upgrade some components like the RAM and maybe the video card again or what else or is it better to get a new desktop entirely? I believe an upgrade to windows 7 would help as well, especially if I upgraded to 7 and upgraded to 8gb of ram. I'm hoping the former is the better choice, dell desktops are built nice and upgrading would be preferable.

haha it's a friend's computer, they don't make enough to get a new one. I'm trying to help upgrade it as a birthday present. I doubt you could build a better computer for around $200, that's why I say upgrade. a new OS, max out RAM, and upgrade something else and it should be able to run games like skyrim with ease, no?

no. It won't run skyrim with ease. You could buy a better pc for $300 with an OS. Just throwing money away on that one.

damn I was hoping that wasn't the case. I guess I'll go with minimal cost upgrades like the extra 4gb of RAM since the OS will be free

32bit OS can only address 4GB of ram. You would need a 64bit OS to take advantage of 8GB of ram, otherwise its a waste of money to buy the additional ram.

yeah that's no problem, would the additional ram and 64bit windows 7 show noticeable improvements you think?

Windows 7 is a better OS than Vista, but I don't think your friend will notice that much of a difference. Adding more ram will probably be the biggest benefit, but he's still going to be limited by the CPU and Mobo's chipset. If you feel you want to spend his money, then go ahead :pt1cable:
