This is a computer hardware issue I posted somewhere else, so I'm posting my only two posts in the thread on another forum verbatim to try to get help:

Hey guys I have recently had a bad problem with my computer monitor blacking out and going into power save mode, as well as my computer turning off I believe because it logged me off of any online games I was playing and skype, although I believe the white light on my power button was still on.

My power supply that came with this prebuilt PC that is 3 years old is extremely crappy so I believe it might be an issue.

2nd post:
Okay I think this problem is more complicated than just a bad PSU possibly. I just had another random blackout on my computer and monitor went into power save mode (just turns black and turns off), and then I restarted the computer and the monitor went black as it was loading up again but I could hear the sound of the Windows 7 login area (where I enter my password to login), and when I typed in the password blind to what was on the screen I heard the noise signifying that it had gone through.

Then I restarted the computer again because of course the monitor wasn't showing anything and then after the windows logo came together the computer asked for a disk check so I allowed it, and then all of a sudden near the start of the disk check (after finishing part 1 of 3 of the start of the disk check), it blacked out again and the monitor went into power save mode. The fans at this point were running really loudly, I decided to just let it run it's course for a while but then the computer started beeping. I believe I heard 6 short beeps, I forgot to record it sadly, but that has to signify some severe hardware problems...my computer is so unstable I don't even know what the real problems are. Anyway after I heard those beeps a few times I shut off the computer because I was worried it was running too hard and would damage the hardware. Next morning I booted it up and it didn't ask for a disk check or anything, it just went through to the login screen and I could log in and use it.

Ah lovely power problems I know them well I'm going through my own right now and have learned a very valuable lesson...every now and then ya gotta just throw in the towell and realize you aint fixin it.It's like that Kenny Loggins song ya know?..ya gotta know when o hold em and know when to fold em.o.k....based on what Dr RayKat has heard I'm gonna have to say...mmmmm...power supply..and if that's not it then I'd check the power supply...at the very least ...I'd give the power supply a real good check.Keep in mind my system is still screwed up so what the heck do i know...I know this...first the power supply you ae using is an OEM piece of,cra...sorry nit's not the greatest..it also seems a little wak for what you are running.I would...

Would http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016 be a good new PSU (as in, would it fit in the case according to the case specifications that you can find in the detailed specs link from the original post)? Also what kind of RAM setup can I replace my current RAM with, it's a very cheap setup that Dell did on the prebuilt PC. 2 x Hyundai Electronics 2GB DDR3 RAM in slot 1 and 3, and then Samsung 1GB DDR3 Ram in slot 2 and 4 so 2+1+2+1 = 6 GB RAM total in a very bad manner. What is a good RAM setup for my motherboard? The exact model is a Dell Inc. Manufactured 0T568R A00 Motherboard with the Southbirdge being an Intel H57 Chipset as mentioned in the first post. Could I try to save a bit on the new RAM by going quad channel and just getting 4x 2GB DDR3 Kingston sticks for example ? I think new RAM would be a good idea as the current RAM seems very cheap and from bad brands but I also don't want to spend $150 total on two 4GB RAM sticks.

Ok so since this I have gotten a Corsair CX600 (600 W) Power Supply to replace the crappy OEM 350 Watt Chicony power supply, and also have replaced the crappy OEM Hyundai 2x2GB and Samsung 2x1GB sticks to just two Kingston HyperX Blu 2x 4GB in my dual channel memory. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104238. My computer is STILL blacking out. I was trying to check the system log around the time of the blackout. ~12:40PM-12:41PM EST on Saturday, August 31, 2013 while playing a game (league of legends). The sound was still going on by the way, so I guess the process was still running just the screen had gone black and the monitors annoying power save mode box popped up for a second and goes away. No amount of clicking or typing will do anything to bring the screen back up though.

Note the second event logs says the shutdown at 12:40:16 was unexpected, this is probably when I manually shut down the computer by holding down the power button. Actually there were no errors right before I shut down the computer manually where the computer blacked out...so I have no idea what component could have actually caused the problem. It's very confusing. People might say to replace my graphics card but then what if I do and the problem still occurs? It's very frustrating to not be able to pinpoint the source of this problem.
