I'm looking for suggestions on how to build a 6 LCD monitor system that will serve as a gloried digital picture frames. I've been researching ATI CrossFire and I think that is the type of graphics card I need. I'm comfortable with building something from scratch. I don't need crazt amount of power so a 2011 or 2012 models might be better. However, I don't know what hardware panned out in the longrun as good. Do i need a PDIe 16x or will a PCIe 1x work fine on photo & videos (non-HD). Also any recommendations on a screen saver or photo/video slide show software would be helpful as well.

If you want to run six monitors, it'll get really expensive. Lucky for you, since you only want to run pictures and slideshows on them, you don't...

If you want to run six monitors, it'll get really expensive. Lucky for you, since you only want to run pictures and slideshows on them, you don't need as much power. You actually don't need crossfire for 6 monitors, only a graphics card with 6 ports:

For the rest of the computer: Get something like an i5-3570/4670 or an FX 6300 processor and 8GB of RAM, and of course a hard drive that's big enough for all of those pictures.

Make sure to check what connectors the monitors have before buying them, you may need adapters (Mini displayport - monitor) For the question regarding the PCIe - You'll need a full slot, not a 1x, that runs at least 8x. (You'll be running at 16x with one graphics card though)

Thank Munchbot, I will start looking at graphic cards that have 6 outputs.

I originally hoping to find digital picture frames that can be controlled from a computer (set picture folder, adjust showing intervals, and linked to folders on a central computer instead of loading each frame). But so far I haven't see anyone linking or grouping digital picture frames (DPF). People have been converting old laptops into DPFs and even saw someone who added an external monitor to make a dual DPF, which is where I got the idea of using monitors instead of actual DPFs.

I need to research the video card aspect and get that narrowed down, so I know what type of motherbaord & LCD monitors I would need.

Many thanks.
