hey everyone

i recently bought another gtx 660sc card to but them in sli for battlefield 3 and i havnt seen any fps increase .. i tried different drivers no luck .. my cpu shouldnt be bottlenecking it becuz im only using 60-70% while in game .could it be monitor ?since i only got an 19inch monitor at 1440x900 im planning to buy an 144hz monitor soon and my gpu usage in game is only at 30-60% and vsync is also not on .if any of u guys can give me an answer would appreciate it .. my full systeem specs are
amd fx6300 @ 4.4ghz
8gb of kingston value ram 1600mhz
tr2 600W psu

yep i even benchmarked them in heaven and valley and they got 77 to 88 avg fps scores
and in the campaign it used 90% + usage and was getting around 150 on ultra while with 1 card was only getting 40-50fps ultra but in the multyplayer the frames r just the same as with one card ...

your bottlenecking your cpu with that card config. the 6300 is an entry level gaming part that you have pared with a high end gfx solution. 1 660 on its own would be fine but 2 of them puts the system right up there as far as game potential goes.
the small screen will also increase the effect. 1440/900 takes a lot less gpu power to make a screen compared to say a 1080p screen. as this will increase the variance between your minimum and maximum fps.

but if my cpu would bottleneck wouldnt it be at 100% load for bf3? its mostly around 70-80% for bf3

i did oc my cpu from 3.5 to 4.4ghz but if my cpu is really bottlenecking it then ill prob go with the 8350

no mate it wouldnt be 100% load or at least it wont look like it. what you will see is the load on the cpu bouncing around 60-70% because the cpu is waiting on thread execution which is being slowed down with to much input from the gfx card... basically think of yourself trying to read this wile you have 2 kids constantly yapping in your ear... you dont fully concentrate on what your reading as the kids get louder and louder till you say stop... you start reading again and the kids start talking again untill you say stop but this time you got there a little quicker.
basically the same thing is happening with the cpu and your 2 gpu's.
1 more thing.
you saw the suggestion of overclocking in the cpu. in your case it would be utterly pointless over what you have now. it wont be enough of a cpu bump to alleviate the size of bottleneck your system has. so in this case i wouldnt bother. but rather think upgrade to a vishera your looking at over 30% gains from a 8350 and thats at stock. overclocked you should have zero issues with 2 660's

but then in the singleplayer played one mission on ultra and was getting 150 frames with sli and with one gpu was only around 40-50 soo wouldnt the cpu bottleneck it in the singleplayer to?

ye im gonna go with the fx8350 hopefully this month now my last Q is the 600W gonna be enough for the time being until i can buy a 850W psu in like a month or two? the 660's take like 330W under fullload the 8350 takes like 180 i got 4 fans 2 hdd's and the zalman x5 performa cpu cooler or something ..so for a month or two could my psu survive

you shouldnt need a huge oc to run both them cards. 600w is pushing it, even if if its a good quality unit then it should be ok for a short while but if you start getting random offs without overclocking then you will likely need a 750w+ just to give an overhead at 80% load

the cpu only takes up to 180w its not a 180w part for general use. the most your likely to push through it is 140w befor you run out of cooling.
you also need to take into account the motherboard may need extra volts when overclocking, then 10w for each fan 1-2w for each ssd 20w for each hdd. you can see how quickly it mounts. so yeah i think 600 is close...

cpu bottleneck, especially at such a low resolution. You should be able to hit 60fps with that cpu i would have thought, which is your monitors refresh rate anyway. Any more fps than 60 will just turn into dropped frames and partial frames displayed causing screen tearing. You should upgrade your monitor more than your cpu, money much better spent. Your fps wont go down and you will get to actually see all the detail in the games you play.
