I have a Seagate 500GB Portable Hard drive, about 2-3 years old. Worked fine last week, which was the last time I used it. I tried using it just now and it wont start up. The light that always went on before isn't even working. Nothing registers on my laptop when I plug it in, also tried on my xbox 360 and same result, nothing comes up. It fell a few days ago, from a table, about 3.5 feet high, nothing crazy, just a normal fall. Is the fall the reason it won't start and how likely is it that its dead for goo?

I would almost guarantee that the fall was the cause, hard drives are the most fragile part of your computer and are not meant to take falls, So it is probably broken. Does this one plug into an outlet?

Yes most likely, what I would do is maybe invest in a longer cable to connect to the computer if needed and keep the external hard drive on the floor so it cannot have a fall, or you could always get an external SSD and a fall would not harm that
