Title pretty much says it all im looking for a decent upgrade in fps for games like arma 3 and crysis 3. i have a 7850 oced at 1050 mhgz and i also want to future proof this thing as long as possible my budget is about 325 bucks so if you can make any other recommendations for upgrades that will also help future proof my rig and give me a boost in gaming performance that would be very helpful.

At 1600x900, the combo you have now should be able to play any game at max settings. I doubt you'd see much difference after spending $200 on the FX-8350 alone. But it's your choice. Getting late here. Gotta call it a night.

For the record, I actually upgraded from an overclocked Phenom II x4 965BE to an overclocked (4.4GHz) 3570k. After failing to run games like Skyrim, BF3, Arma II, etc. at the highest settings (over 50 fps that is), the upgrade to a 3570k was a HUGE improvement. I noticed a huge bottleneck with my GTX 670 when I got it (with my Phenom), so you're probably getting a bit of a bottleneck as well.

If you can, try to get a 4670k, you'll get a bit more performance, though if you really can't afford it, Ivybridge is almost just as powerful and still a viable option. Take it from me, having done the same thing as you, it's a REALLY good call.

Good points. But the OP has a HD 7850. Not quite the same as having the Phenom II keep up with a GTX 670.

would the 7950 be able to keep up with my phenom or would it be bottle necked and I am also thinking if i do buy a 7950 i could sell my 7850 to my friend for a 100 dollars because he is building a rig of his own on a budget and i would be able to, with the remaining money, buy a 8350 with that to lessen the bottle neck if there is one and i would overclock the 8350 as well .

That would be OK. Check you BIOS version. I can't imagine it not being late enough for that CPU, but better safe than sorry.

I'm not having to many issue gaming right now but i'm trying to find the best way to future proof my rig. I'm a senior in highschool right now and I know that once I get too college Im not going to have any of the funds to make any decent upgrades too my computer. And my resolution is 1600x900 @ 60hz.

A 7850 is still more powerful than my old 560Ti, and even then there was a bad bottleneck in CPU intensive games. I can't be more clear, the upgrade to an Intel CPU is the way to go, even over an 8350, it's worth the price to performance upgrade.
