just finished building my new rig, everything seems to run, all fans spin, but i get no video.
annoyingly neither the case nor the motherboard came with that internal speaker to help with the beeps.

I've looked for checklists, but most of them didn't help (especially the one here, where most of them are for when the computer wont even turn on)

i've swapped the graphics card's PCI slot and that didn't do anything. I've tried using an HDMI monitor and a VGA monitor.

the computer feels like its booting up, because when i press the power button to turn off again i have to hold the power button down a few seconds, where in my past experience if the computer wasn't booting the power button would shut it down instantly.

anyone else have any ideas?
here are my parts:

AMD FX-8320 + Corsair H60
Corsair CX 750M PSU
2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws RAM
MSI geforce GTX 760 blower type GPU
WD 1tb HDD

extras: an ASUS PCE-N53 wireless card, and a usb 3.0 PCIe card.

all this in a corsair 300R windowed version case.

Solution

I just want to see if it will boot with another drive. all you have to do is get into the BIOS, no need to get to desktop. if it does it's a your new HD................

motherboard? PSU? Are you plugging the monitor into the video card and not the motherboard video connector?

sorry, motherboard is an Asrock 990fx extreme3
the psu is the corsair CX 750M modular.

the motherboard doesnt have video connectors.

that's the checklist i was talking about, most of those are for when the computer doesnt even turn on, which mine does.

Nope, monitor just claims no video input. I'll try removing the non essentials first thing in the morning. Will post results.

Those are basic troubleshooting steps you should be following. You have no idea if your monitor is any good, do you? You don't know if the video card works, all you have is spinning fans. Start with that list or find a different video card to use to see if it works

redid the front panel wiring according to the booklet, all components seem to be pushed in as far as it will go, RAM, GPU, CPU and the hard drive, everything has power, gpu fans spin, pump works, radiator fan works.
the HDD light doesnt flash at all, i'm guessing it wouldnt yet anyway, right?

i didnt try bread-boarding, i'm thinking if i should take the trouble of undoing everything and building it outside the case.
i could toss in my laptop's HDD, but i'm a little worried it might mess with the laptop's factory-installed windows 8, would it?

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

because asking on a board, being given step by step instructions on how to troubleshoot the problem, then ignoring all the advice is going to get you a long ways towards solving your problem with it.

i took it to the shop for a rebuild, but getting there the first thing the guy did was: take one stick of ram out, power on, power off, psu switch off, psu switch on, power on, power off, switch sticks, do the same, it booted. he said this was pretty common, go figure.
