Afternoon! Quick question. Any idea why my Radeon 5870 isn't working? I didn't have enough room for the card in my current case. I bought a PCIe extender in hopes to remedy this issue. Now I am getting, what I hope is an easy fix. When I plug in any of my connectors from my two monitors I get no signal.
The 5870 has 2 pci 6 pin power connectors. I have a 700 watt PSU. This is the only card I am running as well. The monitors have a DVI-D connector and VGA. I have VGA to DVI-A, VGA to DVI-I. I do not know if the DVI types matter at all.
The monitor is showing no signal, but the computer boots up fine. I tested my old graphics card on the riser and it functioned.
I have to be missing something stupid.

What is the make and model of your 700w psu?

its possible that its not giving the hd5870 enough power and your old graphic card does not require as much power as the hd5870.

Have you tried using all the connectors in case one is faulty?
