No signal with a VGA cable

Hi guys/gals,

Yesterday I built my first build, connected it up, but I didn't have a VGA cable to connect to my (very old) monitor, I decided to borrow one from my family computer, after realising that my graphics card doesn't have a VGA slot (-__-) I decided to put the cord back in to my family computer only to find out that it wasn't working any more, strange, I know. The monitor is turned on and just goes on to stand-by.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this problem has occurred? I've tried many VGA cables and all of them do not work, both ends of the cable are attached to the right slot on both tower and monitor but still no signal.

Many thanks in advance,
Duffy.

What graphics card are you trying to use? What was the family computer using for graphics before you put in the new GPU?
Check for bent pins on the cable. Was the computer shut off when you went swapping cables around?

Hey, thanks for the reply, In my new build I'm using a MSI GeForce 650ti BOOST, both computers were turned off at the time of swapping the cable.
As far as the family computer GPU goes, as far as i know it just has motherboard integrated graphics, I don't know if I'm missing something really obvious, I put the cable back where I took it from, and there are no bent pins, Many thanks, Duffy.

Ahh, just figured it out on my dinner break, turns out my family PC does have a graphics card and I was plugging the VGA cable in to the motherboard, feel free to laugh, but thanks for your help anyway!
