My computer randomly shuts off

My computer will randomly shut off during gaming.
No signs of anything and then it just goes.

This normally happens during demanding games i.e. Starcraft 2 and Dota 2, but after the computer shuts down it will likely shutdown again during even the least of demanding games and possibly even when its idle.

I have tried a complete reinstall of windows and all of my software and nothing changes it still shuts down.

I have even sent it in to be serviced by the people that built it, (a local computer shop "Discount Computer Supplies" it is called) yet when they test it it never shuts down on them and they said there was obvious hardware problems.

Nothing is over clocked so it shouldn't be overheating.

I am willing to upgrade if it requires that.

I expect its hardware but i am no computer expert (as you could tell).

My system specs are...
Evga geforce GTX 660

Side notes..
I play with the side panel of to help with cooling

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

The PSU in question would _NOT_ be faulty if it was shutting off due to OCP. It would be operating as it should. You might need a higher rated PSU to run your system. I shake my head just noticing that you didn't mention what PSU you have :)

What psu do you have ?

"and they said there was obvious hardware problems." <-- elaborate on this.
what CPU do you have ? just list all the specs ...

Also you didn't mention if this problem recently started happening or if it came with the system (ie: nothing changed).

"i am no computer expert" you might have to become one to fix the problem yourself :)

A PC that shuts off like this usually ends up having one of these problems: Overheating or faulty powersupply.

Id advise downloading EVGA's precision to test your GPU's temps and CPU-ID to tests your CPU's temps when playing games.

Once youve done that, post any results :)

If it was just overheating would running the fan faster (using the software you suggested) help the system or would it damage the graphics card?

Ok, your GPU temps are fine - as nostall said, check your CPU now.

In regards to turning the fan up, I never play a game without adjusting my fans - Turning the fans up wont damage your card, but prolonged heat will. Turning them up to 60-75% depending on the room temp if always a good idea when playing games :)

The CPU is always below 30 degress C

Here is a picture (during starcraft 2)

Per Soul_keeper and Gallarian, please post your Power Supply Unit (PSU) specifications. Pictures are fine; if you do that post a picture of the label on the PSU telling us what it is and the power it can deliver. You already gave us the make (EVO) and claimed wattage (700 according to marketing division of that company).

Any reasonable quality 700W PSU should handle that system
I've never heard of "EVO" brand. It might be worth swapping out the PSU for a known good one and see if the problems go away.

edit: It looks like an older one, atx12v 2.2 is from March 2005, and chances are it's possibly rebranded earlier version (relatively common with cheap PSUs IE: thermaltake).

More wattage never hurts. The builder series are relatively popular on internet forums due to the price/availability compared to the more expensive ones like seasonic. I havn't seen many complaints about them.
