I just put together my first PC, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to buy an extension for a SATA3 power cable. I have 2 so far, and on my mobo I have a few open slots for SATA power (labeled SATA3, 4, 5 etc...).

Anyway, I'm hooking up a new SSD to my PC and I think I need to buy a new SATA power cable. Does that sound right? Thanks in advance.

I'm positive that it's a power cable. There are two ports, one's wider than the other. I have the wider port covered, which I believe is the data port, correct? I don't have anything to plug into the smaller port. (Samsung 840 Pro for the SSD, btw, if it's necessary.)r
