Hello everyone, I've searched around a lot for this problem but can't seem to find anyone else who has had this issue.

I started with an Asus P5Q-E motherboard, 6GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo (can't remember which) Windows 7 64-bit

Recently I upgraded my CPU for cheap to a Core 2 Quad Q9400 whilst not changing anything else, and randomly got BSODs whilst running an OS (Tried some linux distros, similar problems) But when running MEMTEST the system was very stable.

Replacing my 2 2 GB sticks of RAM with 1GB sticks has stopped the problem. The 2GB sticks still run fine in a system with the old CPU. I went and bought some other 2GB sticks and I've found that I'm getting the same problem, even running just the 2GB sticks (I've tried all the different RAM slots, just one 2GB stick, etc)

The only pattern I can find is that my processor doesn't get along with 2GB sticks of RAM, why is this and how can I fix the problem?

Thank you for reading :)

Looking at the supported CPU list for the motherboard (http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5QE/#CPUS) I'm at a high-enough bios but I'll try updating everything just to be sure

Updated everything, I'm already at the latest BIOS revision
