Hi, I'm having a problem with my dad's computer. He likes to play Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars. It's the only thing he plays basically. Recently I gave him my old GTX 470 (he had 8800GT).

So basically after building a shitload of tanks, the game starts to stutter and hang, making it unplayable. The funny thing is the graphics card drivers are latest and the CPU and RAM Usage is really low. CPU ~20% or lower, and ram is about 3GB out of 8GB in use.

I was considering, re-installation of Windows or/and re-installation of the game. This is really weird as this never happened to me, even with the same parts. The cpu is a Q9450, so it is not the worst cpu.

Solution

Oh... I've never ran the game before so I'm not sure how it runs... but usually lower settings with no improvement in fps is indicative of a cpu bottleneck. Don't know if that's the case this time... But it could be. I will have to do some research on the game to give a better answer.

What kind of power supply? The GTX 470 needs a lot of power. Also it could be a driver issue. A clean driver install might fix that.

it has the latest drivers, the 320.49. With the 8800GT it was even worse. The thing is even with the graphics lowered all the their lowest settings it still stays the same. Now im going to try to re-install the game as I tried to install the latest game update and it crashed on launch. Something is def wrong. Im 99.9% sure that it has to be a software issue. This game should run smooth with a Quad Core and a mid-range graphic card.

Thanks for your patience, but I think something is very odd with his Windows setup. He turned his computer off when he went to sleep. He turned it on this morning and the external hard drive I plugged in isn't being recognized and in my PC it is. I mean it is recognized just without a drive letter and cannot assign one to it. I had to format it and copy the files again. Because im going to re-install the game with image files from the external hard disk

This is really weird, I put his savegames on a external disk, loaded them up on my computer and it also started to lagg, also my setup is: Core i7 2600, 16GB RAM and GTX 770.

Check your gpu usage as well. Use gpu shark to monitor your usage. http://www.ozone3d.net/gpushark/#download

It appears that a lot of people are also having the same problem with this game and it might just be due to it being poorly coded.

It's probably that "shitload of tanks" that's causing the lag and it might just be a limitation of the game due to the way it's coded rather than a hardware limitation if there isn't high GPU usage. The only solution I can think of is to use less tanks.

yeah I think I found out what the problem is, the problem is apart from it being poorly coded and such, but the thing is the game is limited to 30FPS, so when the frame rate drops, it drops a lot causing it to lagg as hell.
