i have seen a few overclocking guides say "first disable cool n quiet" and since i plan on overclocking, i am wondering how this improves the experience? i kind of figured it makes the CPU run faster with less noise, but is that true? just wondering before i begin this long and tedious process

Solution
Cool'n'quiet will automatically manipulate the processor's voltage at certain times in order to decrease the amount of heat produced by the processor, which can lead to some instability when overclocking. Any noise reduction would depend on the CPU fan having certain mechanisms where the system automatically reduces the RPMs either by BIOS-governed voltage regulation or PWM (as with a 4-pin motherboard connector) and thus doesn't necessarily guarantee that the fan will spin slower just because there's less heat. Disable it.

i just found something saying it reduces the CPU clock if it gets to a certain temp to cool it down. this means it helps a bit with overheating right? if so i don't see how it could be a bad thing. my CPU is running at 45 degrees celsius currently with the CPUID HWMonitor and 1 firefox tab open. that seems a bit warm to me, or is this normal for a phenom x4 9850 at a stock speed of 2.5GHz? my point being it seems my CPU already runs a bit warmer than normal, i figure cool n quiet is the only reason it doesn't overheat or run really hot. an overclock of 15% which is 2.8GHz roughly takes me to overheating or a BSoD. i'd hate to see how low my limit would be without cool n quiet to take things down at a certain point.

Leave them all on, if you start getting instability try it off, if it didn't fix it keep it on. It's not the old days were these features had to be turned off to get stable. The only reason to turn them off is to benchmark which is you stressing the computer to show off your epeen.

Aye, it reduces voltage and clock frequency, but go ahead and leave on Cool'n'quiet if you're concerned about it. Max temp for a Phenom x4 9850 is 61c. As long as it's under that, it should be fine, assuming everything else is staying cool enough. But 45c does seem a little warm for it mostly being idle. (Of course keep in mind heat reduces the life expectancy of transistors, so the cooler the better.) Run Prime95 for stress testing to see what your temp caps out at after about 10min.

Look to be short and precise

Cool n quite is a technology that lowers voltages and clocks when cpu is idle so its basicly for noise reduction
Getting it on when u o.c. Means that at idle state u ll have alot of fluctuations which cause instability in o.c. So its always reccomended to put it offf

Hope u got the info u needed
