I've been having this problem for a while. My problem is is that whenever i play a game that involves surround sound eg. Skyrim, sounds effects such as voices and noises disappears when it is behind me.

For example, an NPC is talking to me in Skyrim. Im facing him, everything is fine. However, when I turn around i cant hear a thing of what he is saying. This is especially annoying when someone is following me or something is going on BEHIND me and i can't hear it.

Specs are:
Asrock Z68 Pro-3 M
Intel i5 -2500k
8gb G-skill Ripjaws @ 1600mhz
1Gb Asus AMD 6850
120gb Samsung 840 SSD
Windows 7 64 bit

And im normally wear Gamecom 380 headphones.

Solution
Your headphones are not surround sound headphones. Check to see if Skyrim has any sound options, make sure they are set to stereo. Also under playback devices make sure that the headset it setup for stereo sound.

What is likely happening is that the game sound is being routed to rear speakers that aren't there.
