While I was playing borderlands it my pc stopped responding and after a restarting my pc I got the bsod with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys) error. The pc kept restarting with the same error (It got stuck in loop). I used safe mode to remove the drivers but whenever I installed any nvidia drivers it gives the same error and gets stuck in the loop again.

I also did a clean installation of windows but still the same problem. While system is booting 660 gtx appears at the very start but after booting in safemode the card appears as microsoft basic display adapter. The driver setup detects the card installs the driver but after restart the same bsod error but in safemode it appears as 660 gtx while drivers are installed otherwise it appears as microsoft basic display adaptor if drivers are not installed.

Specs:
Intel Core i7 2600
4 GB Ram
inno3d 660 gtx
600W PSU
Intel dh67cl motherboard

nvlddmkm.sys is the nvidia driver. Safemode does not load the nvidia driver and will be using a microsoft driver for the display.

Are you using the latest beta driver 326.41 as that seems to have some problems? Try an older version of the drivers such as 320.18 and see if the problem continues. You may have a problem with your 660 card.

Does the card have enough power? Has it been overclocked?

Hi Darksaber,

Back in the old days if you had a problem with a device in the computer it would simply lock up and a cold boot or reset would be needed.

Anyway here are the causes of a TDR error.

Often the driver is not at fault, but the real cause to it crashing are bellow.

1. Overclocked components
2. Incorrect component compatibility and settings (especially memory configuration and timings).
3. Defective parts (memory modules, motherboards, etc.).
4. Insufficient system cooling, and insufficient system power.

Nothing is overclocked, everthing is at normal tempratures and I have not installed any beta drviers. I was using 314.22 drivers and I tested with previous WHQL drivers but the same problem everytime.
