Depends on the resolution. Three or Six monitors? If you're just running 1080, 2gb is enough. But paying a little more for 2x memory is not a bad way to go BUT only if you require it.

You don't need anything more than 2gb even for high resolutions. I wouldn't pay more for a 4gb card, it pretty much is meaningless. 2gb is the sweet spot for gaming right now anyways.

I play very demanding games like day z and i was thinking that maybe the extra 2 gb will come useful there

Usefulness will be to allow more eye candy to be enabled in your games without choking the card due to inadequate frame buffer.

People are right in saying present games will not take advantage of more than 2GB of graphics memory but with the progression toward higher resolution monitor/setups (Eyefinity vs Surround) and advancing graphical demands you'll see its use soon enough. Right now, I like using Skyrim as an example because it's a perfect argument against:

"The 4GB -- Realistically there was not one game that we tested that could benefit from the two extra GB's of graphics memory. Even at 2560x1600 (which is a massive 4 Mpixels resolution) there was just no measurable difference." - http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/palit_geforce_gtx_...

I still can't use all 3GB on my 7970s even with ENB, 4k Textures, 40+ mods on 1900x1200. But this is present day, next-gen games will be more detailed because the ps4 and xbox one will allow it.

EDIT: As I said before, if you don't plan on modding future games and have no desire for a multiple monitor setup, stick with 2 GB and save 20-50 dollars. It's a cheap way to double memory but better spent elsewhere if you're aren't going to take advantage of it.
