I recently got an MSi Z87 GD65 with an i5 4670k, When I enabled OC genie and started my computer, I got a BSOD and I instantly restarted my computer. I turned off OC genie and it worked fine. I tried using OC genie again and got another BSOD and windows kinda got F'd up. I did a fresh re install and everything is working fine. I still wonder why I got a BSOD. Any thoughts on why it happened? Why does OC genie cause BSODs?

I did this last night, just to see what it would do. Same result as you, It ramped up to 4.0ghz and temps 10c above my normal idle (32-38c). Within a couple minutes I got the same result. I got all mad, because this build is only a week old. Went back and turned it off. I have v1.2 bios right now. In the process of updating it. I always knew that doing over clocking manually was the best way to go, just had to try it. I don't see the point of even having that genie if all it does is give out BSOD's!

Try updating the BIOS to the newer version. I have used the OC Genie a few times to boost my CPU to the 4.2 setting and never had any issues. Keep in mind that the new BIOS version is 1.5. The MSI LiveUpdate utility can download an update that can be run from Windows and doesn't have to be loaded onto a USB drive.

As a general question: did you mess with any of the BIOS settings after you enabled the OC Genie?

I'm using the Z87-GD65 Gaming board with a 4670k....

DO NOT USE LIVE UPDATE TO UPDATE YOUR MSI BIOS! That is a very good way to brick your MB! Use the "MSI HQ Forum USB Flasher" instead. Very safe and very easy to use: http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163900.0

Well, so far, I've used it 3 times with this board to update and it worked out perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, the only time I had an issue and almost bricked my board was when I used a USB drive to flash the BIOS....Live Update simply downloads the file for you, then you go to the file location and install it. Just make sure that you're not trying to multi-task while this process is going on - shut down all other programs and let the process finish.
