i have an old family computer that hasnt been used in years (so old it has 256mb ddr-400mhz ram)it has a western digital caviar se 160gb hard drive. can i connect this to my computer to view the files?(it has sata ports)
will the old os interfier somehow with my current os?(i believe the old os might be windows 98)

No, the OS on the drive won't interfere in any way; it would just show up as another drive letter. There could be a problem regarding the interface. If this old drive is IDE, you may not be able to connect it directly to a modern PC since IDE ports are all but extinct in new PCs. You can get a device like this to connect it via USB, however:

before i pulled it, it was connected to the sata cable and sata power cable and it also states "master/slave jumper not required for SATA" so im guessing that means its sata and ive got the go ahead to plug in it?
