I had this two monitor set up for a while now.

A GTX 670 2GB for my 1920x1080 monitor for gaming

and a HD Radeon 5770 for second monitor (Movies, youtube, etc.)

It worked perfectly the two drivers never gave me stability issues.

I recently decided to take out the Radeon 5770 and just have the external monitor connect to the GTX 670 as well to save power. and the GTX 670 2gb can handle 2 monitors just fine.

My question is
since the GTX 670 I have only has a DVI-I, 2 HDMI slots, and 1 DVI-D (digitial) slot
What should I use to connect my second screen?

Will using a DVI-I to dual VGA use the performance of that one slot?

for my second monitor I'm using a HDMI to VGA but is only giving me a 1024x768 resolution nothing higher. (1600x900 screen)

If I go higher it gives me a "Input not supported"

Honestly, just use a different port for each monitor. Or even better, use the 5770, it will barely be using any power when only doing movies and YouTube\regular tasks.

That's what I've been doing. Now I've been striving for a cleaner look. having two huge graphics cards in the tower takes too much space. Creates a lot of heat in little space as well. I've wanted to make it a bit more simple. and less power consuming if possible (even if it's slight)

I'm thinking of giving the 5770 to a neighbors kid for his light gaming needs.

It's weird that I'm struggling how to even connect an external monitor. Seems like such an easy task. hahah.

You want to use a DVI to VGA adaptor. This should give you the 1600 x 900 resolution you want.
HDMI will want to run at 720p or 1080p as native resolutions due to its TV friendly nature.
Hope this helps. JQ

I only have 1 DVI-I slot and it's being used by the 1920x1080 monitor.

I have a DVI-D slot as well but I heard somewhere you can't use it.
