Hey there.
Just upgraded from a GA-Z68XP-UD4 and i5-3570K to a GA-Z87X-UD5H and i5-4670K, formatted my Windows 8 when the new hardware was installed.
I had a decent customized 9.3 sound system set up around my room (very dodgy, but worked a treat) and now after formatting, I can't even get basic 5.1 to work. iTunes, VLC, Chrome, WMP all playing stereo through front speakers. Windows does recognize the 5.1 setup, but not outputting anything.
Any ideas?

Solution
try removing everything and plug the 5.1 system bACK IN and see if you can get it working.

also make sure in the audio playback options the realtek audio is selected and default.

I used to be able to use VLC and iTunes for my setup, but after the windows format, I can't figure anything out. I've taken out the inbuilt speakers I put in my case (no more room for them) and now I'm not getting anything at all
