Hello!

I'm trying to upgrade the memory of my dell optiplex 990 by adding additional 2gb ram in each slot, but installing multiple ram wont let the pc start, i have kvr-1333d3s8n9/2gb-sp. i have tried each ram that i got (same one) and each of them work if put in alone. i have also tried every possible slots combination and nothing happen. hope someone can help me here to figured this thing out.

Thanks a lot!

Hi learner007,

Seems a little weird, nevertheless if you are using windows 7 operating system. I would suggest you to check if Multi Display option is enabled in the BIOS- Even if you are using a single display connected to the graphic card. We had few instances where the system was not able to post when multi display option was disabled with the diagnostic LED 1,2,3 flashing on the PC.

Try a BIOS update. Install the latest BIOS and then install the memory together, if it works that is good. Else maybe one of the slot might be defective or in RARE case it may be due to the CPU.

Hi learner007,
I would agree with Legohouse, The PC does support up to 16 GB for normal chassis and 8 GB for the ultra-small form factor & you are indeed using the right type of memory. This problem could happen if the BIOS is out dated and not able to address larger memory. You could consider the advice of Legohouse, Update the BIOS to the latest version (Version A17).

thanks guys for giving out answers, but i just figured it out today that it might not a memory modules incompatibility with the system, cause I ended up removing the video card and the system works perfectly with all of the modules installed. so there is a shifting of the issue now (lol) it seems like it's the video card that wont work with a ram more than 2gb.
