Hi everyone! :)

Sometimes, usually when I (re)start playing games and I see that my PC starts struggling, I (re)start thinking that I should try a small Overclock for my CPU (maybe I'll OC my GPU too, but I'm not sure for it worth it, do you suggest to try Overclocking it too?)

First of all, here's my PC config:

CPU: A64 x2 6000+ (Windsor)
Mobo: Asus M3A (latest bios, obv)
RAM: 4gb (1x4) Kingston ddr2 800mhz
Video Card: nVidia POV 9600gt

(don't think you need more infos)

I wanted from you nerds some suggestions on how I should go on! :)

Oh yeah: I think it's due to some CPU\Ram divisor errors from AMD, but my ram doesn't go at 400x2 (800) mhz but a little bit slower. If I'm not wrong (without going up with the FSB) my RAM frequency is 375x2 mhz...

Next point: I found a stable OC on my config changing (increasing) ONLY the FSB and CPU voltage: my CPU voltage is now 1.425v and my FSB from 200, is now at 208mhz.

In these conditions my HT is going about at 1040 mhz and my CPU (with x15 multiplier. I can't increase the multiplier but only decrease it) is going at 3120 mhz instead of 3000.

Since I've read that many people with my same CPU - which is anyway not the top for the OC - reached higher frequencies (and if I bring my FSB at 209 my PC starts being unstable), I ask to you experts how to proceed with my OC!

Thankssssss! :D

PS: The PCI-EX Fix (or how it's called) is now at 101mhz. My CPU cooler is the stock one and I've changed the termal past very recently! Obviously Spread Spectrum and CnQ are disabled :)

Solution
add Vcore voltage as you raise FSB
maybe bump up dram,nb, and ht link voltage, too
ht link voltage=just a couple notches.
the others..you can go up a bit on..download HWmonitor and monitor your core temps.

In the bios the voltages I can change are: DDR, CPU and SB voltage.

For the NB HT Link I can only change the speed and I can choose between 1Ghz, 800, 600, 400, 200 mhz.

How do you suggest to proceed?

set nb/ht link to 600 @ 1st..
bump ddr voltage .02v bump SB .02v and leave alone
bump CPU voltage .02v at a time.
raise ref clock..see if works..boot..raise again..boot
until you no longer boot..then go back to the last setting that worked.
..and see if you can get it stable

Ok thank you! I'm gonna try this! Just another question: since the values I can change of the SB voltage are only: 1.25, 1.30, 1.35, 1.40; what's the value I should choose? I don't know what's the default SB voltage value and google didn't help!

Ok there's how my PC is going now:

SB Voltage: 1.35v
DDR Voltage: 1.84v
CPU Voltage: 1.45v
NB HT Link: 800mhz
CPU Multiplier: x13 (instead of x15)
FSB: 240

So my CPU freq is now 3120mhz, the HT Link is 960mhz and my Ram is going at 390mhz (x2).
In the bios I've changed the Ram speed from 800mhz (400x2) to 667 so I could increase more the FSB value...
I've tried then bumping up the FSB to 243 to bring my ram at 400x2 mhz and my CPU to 3145mhz but then my PC didn't start loading windows and I had to reset it...I've tried also increasing the vCore to 1.475 but nothing changed! What can I do to keep increasing my FSB? Thanks!

Ahaha I didn't know :D

Anyway, right now I'm trying this:
x15 multiplier with 215 fsb (CPU at 3225mhz)
800mhz HT (with the OC at 860)
RAM going at 403 x2 mhz :)

I'll make some test in both these configurations (I mean the one with the x13 multiplier and this one), and I'll choose the best one!

Thank you for your suggestions! :) Really helpful!

dear otreblA_SNAKE_ITA,
i have the hardware as you and the same problem as you :wahoo: i could not overclock my system . if you find the best config for that please share it .. it would be very helpful and thank you in advance.

Unluckily I had to give up! Sometimes my sistem crashed also with minimal overclocking, so I've decided that it's better having more stability instead of an unstable overclocking! What a pity!
