Wanna get 16gb of ram but my question is should I get 2 sticks of 8gb each or go for 4 stick at 4gb each. I'm asking this because one if I wanted to add in more memory in the future I could but another and have a total of 32gb. The other question is isn't it better to go with the 2 sticks of 8gb because I won't bottle neck the lanes by having all four sticks of ram in there?

So I would get 2 8GB sticks and but them in the 2nd and fourth slot. Or is really doesn't matter lol. MB will be Asus 1150 Hero.

You want to put 2 x 8 GB in that mobo. The only platform that can take advantage of 4 x 4 "quad channel" is socket 2011. Socket 1150 can only take advantage of dual channel, so you see absolutely no benefit in using all 4 slots for 16GB. What version of Windows do you have? If you have Home Premium, you will not be able to use above 16GB.

Thanks for the fast reply I'm currently using win 7 Prem and was thinking about staying with 7. But that is very good to know I'm glad I asked the question. Looks like I will stay with 16gb x2. Also am I correct about the slots? Put them in the second and forth?

Do you think I should go with Win 8 if so what would be the benifits with Window 8? Win 8 to get past 16gb?

Also I'm thinking about going with 1866 or do you think 2133 would be better? I see the timings are better on 1866?...

Thanks

Ok, for the slots, it is best to put one stick in the slot closest to the CPU, skip one slot, and then fill the third, like so:

I think it's a good idea to move to windows 8. It is an overall more responsive OS, however you will still need Windows 8 pro to utilize more than 16G (much like windows 7). The new user interface may take some time to get used to, however there are plenty of tweaks out there to make it function like windows 7. As for RAM speed, unless you are using integrated graphics, it is typically better to go with the lowest timings. 1866Mhz with a CAS Latency of 9 will be the ideal set for you, if you have a graphics card. If you are running integrated graphics, then grab the fastest RAM you can.
