Router stopped broadcasting

I have a Netgear WNDR3700. I've had no major problems with for it 2 or 3 years now. Yesterday, I was surfing the net on my laptop then *poof* my network connection is gone. My laptop detects my neighbors' networks, but it (along with my tablet and phone) doesn't see mine. It seems my router just stopped broadcasting it. I made NO changes to my network settings, hardware or software-wise. It just stopped in the middle of web browsing. Wired works fine, as I'm posting this via my desktop which is connected to the router via Ethernet cable.

I'm running older firmware on my router (V1.0.0.12) and I'm hoping that's not the issue. The reason why is because last time I updated it I lost ALL internet connectivity and I had go through an ordeal of uploading older firmware via FTP.

The only things I've tried so far are resetting the router, resetting the modem, every combination of resetting them together, pressing the WLAN button in the front of the router and changing the channel of the router.

Solution
Netgears do suffer from radio death, but should last longer than 2-3 years. My WNDR3700 about the same age, currently running Gargoyle firmware, which is far superior to anything Netgear produced and DD-WRT, has never worked so well.

As Onus said, check SSID is broadcasting.

If your comfortable updating firmware, would recommend the switch to Gargoyle.

Yes, SSID is set to broadcast still.

I am comfortable updating the firmware, and I'll do that if nothing else works. In the meantime, I'll see if any other ideas pop up. If not, I'll take your advice and use Gargoyle, since I certainly don't trust their own firmware.

By any chance, did you just add a device to your network when the trouble started? I just started having the same issue after years of flawless performance as soon as I added a new laptop...

In my case, it seems like a software issue - some table overflowing and turning off the broadcasting. If I just hit accept without changing anything, I am warned that I'm turning off the broadcasting or something to that effect. But then it comes back on after completion. I had 21 devices configured in the wireless access table - wondered if there is a limit... we'll see.

Nope. I did nothing at all. I ended up getting a new router, that was my "fix".
