Hello all,

I have checked various sites for a solution and normally i would know how to resolve using my own knowledge but this is truly weird.

Last night i updated my GeForce 570 GTX HD card using the lastest stable driver from nVidia. It has since stopped video from displaying after the windows splash screen.

I have tried rolling back, other drivers, cleaning/ uninstalling with DriverCleaner and Add/Remove Programs etc, booting in safe mode and forcing startup with Low-Res 640x480 video, changing output sources from DVI to HDMI, pretty much everything i can think of. All my methods of removing and reinstalling drivers have been followed to a T but i just cannot boot into windows proper.

Booting in Safe mode is fine. In fact, if i completely wipe wipe the video driver in safe mode and then run a cleaner ensuring no driver or residual files are on the system, i CAN boot to Win7. But each time i do so, Windows begins to install hardware (i imagine the WDM default driver), asks me to restart and then same problem occurs- black screen after splash.

I read somewhere to startup without my monitor (DELL 24WFP) powered up until after booting in windows as the issue may lay with the monitor itself and windows needs to redetect the driver for it, however i cannot see the monitor anywhere in device manager.

I'm racking my brains here and can't think of anything else to do except for a Windows Repair which im trying to avoid. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

When you boot up, run the Last Known Good Configuration and it should work for you.

Yeah tried that, believe it or not, same thing happens. I have just now managed to get into windows again by removing all drivers and booting up with my monitor off. When i heard the windows jingle i turned monitor back on et voila!

However i still need to get the proper driver on without getting back into this black screen loop. I have located system restore and thankfully there is a restore point from 31/07, im hoping this will resolve it. will post my progress.

Your monitor should be in "Devices and Printers." Just type 'devices' into the start menu and it should come up.

Can you share what motherboard you have? Also, have you tried the card in other slots?

i had a similar problem, with a 8500gt and hp monitor.
clean out the driver, and reboot the computer. dont restart the computer after it finishes installing the WDM driver
download CCleaner and clear your registry
download the newest beta driver from nvidia
then restart
im not sure if this will actually help you because its a different setup, but it helped me. good luck!

Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro

Monitor is not shown in device properties, there isn't even a stack layer for monitor!!
[Oops, just correctly read your response- will check in Printers & Devices]

Not tried removing cards as the card is working (Safe Mode video proves that) so waste of time really, no?

Anyhow i have managed to restore to an older restore point and am now installing the latest stable driver from nVidia, which looked promising until my screen just went black again! Ill post results.

I will try this now as my last attempt went straight back into the blackscreen cycle :(
