Looking to buy a new processor, but...

I checked my MOBO's specs and I found the list of supported CPUS. So I am looking into buying an AMD Phenom II X6 1075t. It says it is 125w.. But on the motherboard specs it says TDP is 95w? But it also says that it supports all AMD Phenom II X6 processors? Would I be ok with this? I have a 600W corsair power supply.

Solution

it is not about the power supply , the motherboard must also support the TDP of the CPU , by having the proper power circuit to supply the CPU.

if it says 95w max then dont add more .

We would love to help you. But without more information on your motherboard... it is a hard thing to do. Could we perhaps have the Motherboards Make and Model #?

So, why would the mobo say it supports the CPU but yet it won't support the wattage of it?

they mean they support the CPU WITH max TDP of 95 WATT . not all of them

here is your mobo

Yeah, and the Pheon II X6 1090t would be one of them correct? According to that list it is.. yet it says that CPU is 125w

not really , if one sucks at gaming then both do :)

one is 3G and the other is 2.9G .. no big deal

Because when playing newer games like Planetside 2 my FPS is constantly below 20-30 in big battles even on low settings. And it always says "CPU" instead of "GPU" meaning it's barely using my GPU at all. I have a superclocked GTX 660 2gb video card, which is more than enough to play most any games out right now.

I was just thinking to myself, I may as well buy a new MOBO and then I can get a better processor.. So if I were to do that. As long as all of my hardware is compatible and I get the right chipset on my MOBO. Is it as simple as taking everything out of my PC, putting new MOBO in, and then hooking everything to that Mobo and i'm done?
