I just built a new system using an ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard, an AMD FX-8350 CPU, and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler. No overclocking or anything yet. I have ran 4 different temp monitoring software and it's 50/50 on which are correct. Here is what I am seeing at idle:

CoreTemp and AMD Overdrive are both showing between 15-20C
SpeedFan and ASUS Probe II are both showing around 35-36C

I'm not sure which one to believe. Are two of them getting the sensor in the socket and the other two the CPU itself? Any idea which is which??

Solution
Use your mobos utility program that monitors your components. HWmonitor and Coretemp don't show an accurate cpu temperature while my gigabyte utility easytune will. For my situation I have to figure 12C more from whatever Hw and coretemp show me.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm using a 8350 with a GA-970a-UD3
