Don't blame you on AMD, any preference as towards a CPU? i.e. Ivy Bridge (3570K - 3770K or Haswell 4670K - 4770K would help narrow things down as well as Budget?

Best mobo out there for the 3570K is the Rock's Z77 Extreme 4, will handle anything and OC's extremely well for an Extreme 4 (LOL, yes pun intended), I origianlly got mine for testing thinking I'd move up to the EX6 or a Fatal1ty and never looked back, this mobo handles everything, it's my main component testing rig as well as work rig

I would go with a msi g-45 motherboard it's 130$ can over clock and do the job, it's a good motherboard hands down, the people that they say suck is because they either had a past with them or because of another reason.

The EX4 is $135 at the Egg, a step down is the EX3 at $110, which is also an excellent mobo.

Side note: As to the MSI G-45, indeed yes, many builders, and I'm one, won't touch MSI mobos, in large part because of low QC and support issues, many DOAs, many problems within months of a build, if MSI took some of the money they blow on their, shall we say, 'creative' advertising and sunk it into some Quality Control Inspectors, their would be fewer problems with the mobos they ship
