Sounds a little risky I know. My old laptop was ruined because of viruses. So, i made a desktop computer. I do have a lot of Gb's for storage on this computer, but i could always use more. Before i got rid of the laptop, I stripped the Hard Drive from it. I couldnt wipe the drive, or re-format it because i had already threw away the laptop. I would really like to use the hard drive, but Im not risking using a virus infected hard drive in this computer. Im not sure what to do. I know old fashion methods of wiping hard drives with a magnet, but that would probably destroy the hard drive, which would defeat the whole purpose. So, how do i wipe the hard drive clean, so i can use it on my new computer, without infecting my new computer with the viruses on the hard drive?

Create a boot antivirus CD/DVD. Preferably more than one. Kaspersky, etc. Also a HirensBootCD.
Remove all other drives from the desktop. (Do not skip this step)
Install the infected drive
Boot from the boot DVDs
Clean the infected drive. Do it again. Run MalwareBytes through it. Erase everything via DBAN and/or HirensBootCD.
Now you can reinstall the actual boot drive and use this formerly infected thing as a secondary drive.

Resume normal ops.
