Newbie here, I have always been a console player but recently had the funding to get my PC built a few years ago. With all the new gen console coming I was stuck between getting a PS4 or upgrading my PC even more and am leaning towards PC at this point. Problem is I'm not an expert on this and need help, the follow is my current set up:

6x2GB (12GB) Corsair DDR3
Corsair H50 Cooling (Push/Pull Fan configuration)
i7-950 3.06GHz (OC'd to 3.7GHZ)
X58 Sabertooth Mobo
Cooler Master HAF 932 Case
850W Power Supple
Dual Radeon 5770's in Crossfire mode
Win 7 Home 64bit

I've read that going with a single card is better then crossfire/sli and want to give nVidia a shot, I'm looking to get something in $300-$400 range no more. If more info is needed please tell me what and I will reply, I'm wanting to get this within a months time. Thanks guys/gals

A single MSI GTX 770 Gaming is your best option. If you're willing to spend 500$ you can get 2 MSI GTX 760 Gaming in SLI that'll perform better than a 780. SLI works much better than crossfire, and you'll pretty much never encounter any problems.

Gigabyte GTX 770 or the EVGA GTX 770 SC edition. Both cards are amazing and around the same price point (400$). You won't be disappointed with either one. One main thing though, if you play at 1080p resolution or less then get the 2gb version, if you want to play at 1440p or so then get the 4gb versions of the card.

I'll provide you a link to show the benchmarks of how good the 770 is.

Wow that was pretty quick replies, I'll look at all these options, but to answer the monitor question. It's nothing great, it's a Hannspree with 1600x900 resolution, I actually have two using dual monitors for work, which was another concern for me since the 5770 are HDMI and I have both monitor in HDMI

There are adapters you can buy to turn DisplayPort into HDMI, etc.
