Hi,
recently purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 7790 OC 1GB DDR5 GPU & according to Catalyst Control Center AMD Overdrive the High Performance memory clock settings are at their highest levels = 1600 MHz.
This card does say OC'd from the factory but I'm just wondering if that means it should be running at max all the time? I know very little (nothing actually) about overclocking.
In fact until about three hours ago I had no idea how to control any of the settings on this card (have some experience with SpeedFan). Only began searching earlier today because the displayport attached monitor has on two occasions not awakened from sleep - over the past few days. It was suggested that thru PowerTune technology I might be able to control the displayport handshake.
Closest thing I could find to Powertune was AMD Overdrive. So I guess that's really two questions.
1) should the memory clock settings be at MAX?
2) any idea where I might adjust the dp handshake settings or why the dp monitor doesn't wake up?
By the way I do have three monitors now, the other two are attached dual DVI. Hadn't intended to put three monitors up but the capabilities of this card made it irresistible.
thank you
p.s. Forgot to mention if I power cycle the monitor it comes right up.

Downloads Sapphire Trixx or MSI Afterburner. Tell us what the sliders for OCing say.Looks like the 7790 is not on the SAPPHIRE Eligible Product List for TRiXX Utility.
Did quickly read the How to use MSI Afterburner instructions but I'm sorry not quite sure what your asking. This looks like the same info on AMD Overdrive:
Are you asking me to do something in the settings or MSI Afterburner properties window?

You may need to adjust the ULPS settings via regedit. I can see that you are running Cat 13.4 but what driver version is it running? Here's the software info:
Driver Packaging Version = 12.104-130328a-155980C-ATI
2D Driver Version = 8.01.01.1295
2D Driver File Path = /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0002
Direct3D Version = 9.14.10.0969
OpenGL Version = 6.14.10.12217
Catalyst Control Center Version = 2013.0328.2218.38225
AMD Audio Driver Version = 7.12.0.7714
Yesterday I used the AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility & then Driver Sweeper to clean out old driver files. & then AMD Driver Autodetect to update the most current drivers.

Fan Speed is also too high if thats on default. It looks like Kombustor is running though so fan speed might be right. Just mark your numbers while the card is idle. Hit reset to defaults and if nothing changes then I guess thats how its meant to be.
If someone knows the math, I don't know this formula.
The card runs memory at 6.4Ghz. If you can find the formula to reverse check if the 1600mhz is correct. I think it is right though,
1600x4=6400mhz
6.4x128bit=819.2/8=102.4GB/s
My 7870GHz advertised 4.8Ghz memory clock but it was actually 5Ghz even after hitting reset.

I set SpeedFan to allow 65%. I know nothing - this all new stuff for me. Just never liked running things at MAX all the time.
Used AMD Overdrive earlier to turn the memory clock down a bit - but it was MAX right out of the box.
I did not install Kombustor.
OK, that's over my head. Why are you multiplying 1600 x 4?
I see the Effective video memory is 6400 MHz.

I was confused about which driver to use because as you can see there is a section for Radeon HD 7xxx PCIe
& then one specifically for Radeon HD 7790 PCIe. So I just let auto-detect pick it for me.
Are you saying this is not the one auto-detect selected?

No this one is driver version 12.101.2.1-130416a and you are using a the later 12.104-130328a, I don't know if it will make a difference or not though as I've only just been told about it.Will take me all evening to digest what we have so far here in this thread.
Great forum
The PC has gone to sleep a few times today but hasn't experienced any problems since I woke it up @ 6 AM this morning, that may have been the case yesterday too.
So tomorrow morning if the monitor does not wake up I will install the older driver & go from there.
thanks to all

Your 7790 is completely normal and fine. Return the memory to its default. My memory is 1250mhz, which x4 =5000mhz/5.0Ghz
Get the latest beta driver from AMD 13.8
Auto Fan Speed.
yes you are correct - right on the Sapphire HD 7790 product page is says:
Quote:
The SAPPHIRE HD 7790 OC Edition is the first product in a new family featuring the latest GPU architecture from AMD. It has 1GB of the latest DDR5 memory, and is factory overclocked with core clocks of 1075MHz and memory clocks of 1600MHz (6.4GB/s effective) to deliver new levels of performance in its price segment. know I've read that paragraph half a dozen times in the past week. Those numbers correspond exactly to the out-of-the-box numbers posted in the MSI graphic above.
Going to shut down SpeedFan too since it looks like the default is already 50% (65% little noisy anyway). GPU temp @ 41 Celsius so no worries there.
You think I should install the BETA driver? Is that what you're doing?

yes. its just the newest driver with "Frame Pacing" , Its mainly for CrossfireX setups at 2500x1600. I have neither CFX or 2500x1600. They are releasing the driver in phases. Supposed to fix the stutter issues.
As for my cards fans. I didn't really notice a change in temp when I upped the speed, just noise. Auto does a good job for me.

13.8 Beta Driver site : http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/rad...
Also what is your ambient temperature?

Here is a YouTube video of my card in action with TriXX so perhaps Sapphire hasn't updated the product eligibility list to reflect that the 7790 is indeed supported.
From my thread on the Sapphire forum:
It is no function to wake up, only a function GPU shall not go into idle state.
Perhaps not going into an idle state will keep the handshake awake? Have had no recurrence since yesterday morning but looks like a great utility anyway.
From my thread on the Sapphire forum:
Quote:
TriXX has only one power related setting more or less as meant by you: "Disable ULPS" (Ultra-Low Power State). It is no function to wake up, only a function GPU shall not go into idle state.

So your computer goes to sleep and won't wake up? Put everything on auto. If you have XMP compatible RAM, enable XMP in the BIOS. Which CPU/MOBO do you have?
Not the computer - the displayport attached monitor. Twice upon waking the third monitor (displayport) had to be power cycled to make the handshake with GPU. I think the Sapphire folks are onto something re: disable Ultra-Low Power State.
Will report back with results.
thanks

Posting an answer to this thread:
If TriXX doesn't work - another option found here on Tom's - thank you very much
You might try altering the power settings in the BIOS - in my case the Power Management Setup in the BIOS is not configured for the mildest sleep state.
Right now the ACPI Suspend Type is S3 str:
Setting ACPI to more power hungry form of suspend e.g. s1 (POS) Power on Standby could be the answer:
S3: Commonly referred to as Standby, Sleep, or Suspend to RAM (STR). RAM remains powered.

Quote:
ACPI Suspend to RAM : ACPI stands for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface - which some people may find as options in their BIOS setup programs. The Suspend to RAM feature, sometimes referred to as S3/STR, lets the PC save more power when in Standby mode, but all devices within or attached to the computer must be ACPI-compliant. Some BIOS's offer an S1/POS option for this scenario. If you enable this feature and experience problems with the standby mode, simply go back into the BIOS and disable it.Setting ACPI to more power hungry form of suspend e.g. s1 (POS) Power on Standby could be the answer:
Quote:
S1: All the processor caches are flushed, and the CPU(s) stops executing instructions. The power to the CPU(s) and RAM is maintained. Devices that do not indicate they must remain on may be powered off.S3: Commonly referred to as Standby, Sleep, or Suspend to RAM (STR). RAM remains powered.
