Theres a metal piece with my wired network card. Its rectangular with holes for screws in it and it almost looks like a smaller version of the metal piece that came attatched to the card. On it is says, "10=off, 100=GRN, 1000=YLw" and "ACT/LNK" So this is a smaller version of the other larger one the card is connected to...

It's called a "low-profile" bracket. It's in case you want to install the network card in a very small case that isn't high enough for standard adapter cards. You can unscrew the original bracket on the card and put the small one on and it will fit into the small case.

You see them used sometimes on video cards, so that people can install them in the small cases that are used for home theater PCs (HTPCs).

Hello:
Most network cards can be put into a normal size case. The adapter that came attached to the card is for a normal size case. Like ATX Case.

For those who have say a mini itx pc or slim line, or in my case a projector pc up near the projector. It is a slim line case. So the extra bracket is to replace the normal bracket to put the network card into a slim line case.
The technical term is a half high bracket.
