My motherboard is old and i was thinking i can buy a usb 3.0 pcie card to get faster transfer speeds. My question is will this be an upgrade if my motherboard only supports usb 2.0 or is it going to run usb 3.0 speeds through the pcie slot. I think my pcie is 1.0 version
Will a usb 3.0 pcie card work at full speed on a pcie 1.0 slot?

It will perform better than a straight PCI-E (1) card, but won't run at it's full potential...however when you get ready to upgrade CPU and mobo will already have a PCI-E 3 card

IMO, adding a USB 3.0 card to an old motherboard only supporting PCI-E 1.0 is not much of an upgrade as it would be limited by the other hardware in the system. Is the PCI-E card you are planning to install an x1? If so, there will be minor improvement as PCI-E 1.0 x1's bandwidth is 250mb/s compared to USB 2.0's 60mb/s.

Unless you plan on running an external SSD and want its maximum sequential speeds there isn't many products around that will use usb 3.0 max speeds.
