How to choose correct size of power supply

I have a gigabyte motherboard ga-g41mt-s2p, intel processor E6700 3.2 & nvidia gv-n520d3-1gI video card. Do I add minimum power requirements, add 20% to get best figure?

for a poor quality one yes, most psus that come in cases are usually over advertised and under perform to what it says. A good brand like seasonic, xfx, corsair, antec, ocz, cooler master, silverstone etc perform up to its advertised specs.

http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx. List of psus in a tier format 1-5, 1 being best in quality, not all are on the list but most decent available ones are. Personally lowest Id pick is tier 3, for ur parts 430 is enough and prob lower but to be sure u can use wat czar357 said

Well take the tdp or wattage of the cpu and gpu, which the gpu u have takes power only from the 75watt pci-e lane and the cpu is 65watts, then add about 100 for other components so really u need not alot of power but for quality of purchase an antec or corsair 430 watt cpu is more than enough. The cpu and gpus take the most amount of power and most of the other components do not take alot so usually add the two together and i guess 20% is about right maybe more

Thank- you Lazyboy. The PSU in the case I bought had 500W Peak Power, brand Numan Model ATX500WB+P4. This died after about 1 year. I think the brand was Chinese. Is this unusual for a PSU to die so quickly pls?
