RAID Controller Needed

Hi there

I am looking for a RAID controller based on the following, I have tried some local sources here in deepest darkest Africa without much luck.

6 x 2TB WD Green SATA drives
RAID 5 (seems to be the best solution without losing a lot of space)
Hardware Raid (from what I've read it appears better)
OS & MB are currently 64bit
Running 2008 or 2012 Server

This is running a home media/file server so some redundancy is great however everything is backed up, the card should be compatible with 3TB and 4TB drives.

The case is a Lian-Li PCX2000FN (http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-x2000fn) so there is plenty of space.

I am currently running 8 SATA drives on a 450W Power Supply, is this sufficient ?

Thanks in advance!

  2. be sure to get the battery backup units if they are availble. The lsi definitely has one. replace the bbu every two years at most.
  3. Excellent, thanks for the response.
