Trying to remember a MS DOS/Windows 95 strategy game's name

I apologise for this ancient question but unfortunately I want to remember the name due to a conversation a friend and I had recently. Plus I want to play it again (I still remember all my hours of Warcraft 2, Daggerfall)

This would have been between 1996-1998. The game could very well be older...

I will say this: It looked allot like Warcraft 1 & 2 but was "darker" it had a sort of Diablo-feel to it. It was strategy based and there were these red monsters/ creatures on the one side.

I remember the game so well however it was on a friend's pc so I didn't play it (which is why I don't remember the name)

We also played Commander keen on the pc (so that should give you a rough estimate of the time frame)

This question can only be answered by the wisest wizard of them all

:)

Hey man, it might be do you have the name of that game? I need to see the antagonist side (the ground would be darker, redder) Since this is so long ago I really need visuals as I cannot really remember exactly what the GUI looked like only sections of the game itself, I don't think the GUI was that big though (too much right side space is occupied) I think it only had 9-12 square blocks (similar to Warcraft).

I tried to Google Agewon, age wonder, nothing came up except that.

Nope a few screenshots in Google images confirms it's definitely not the 1 :).

I have been searching on MS DOS strategy games, top 100 MS Dos strategy games all day, can't find it there are too many games on there that are classed as strategy that are completely irrelevant so that's why I posted :p I am hoping someone here played it back in the day

Think more like Warcaft 1 and 2, it was a base building RTS with units you could attack an enemy with. I think there were only 2 players (you and the NPC opponent)

I appreciate the help Liam, I'll give you best answer it's not there but I have realised if 2 people can't find it it's either a random indie game and I will never find it or God has wiped it's existence from history.
