Dual Monitors Suddenly Not Working

Hello! Having a real weird problem with my dual monitors. In the past I've had a few patches of weirdness, such as one not turning on, which could usually just be fixed by restarting. I'm totally stumped this time.

Turned on my computer and only the first of two monitors turned on. Got really annoyed and swore a bit. Called the computer some unkind names. Switched the ports of the monitors, monitor 1 works fine wherever it's plugged in, monitor two will not work at all (blank black screen when plugged in, no connection message when unplugged).

Begin thinking maybe monitor two has died or something, so I decide to run through some other options. Can't detect monitor through computer settings or nvidia controls. Go to update nvidia drivers at which point it prompts me to run a java something-or-other to detect my graphics card settings.

Lo and bloody behold, running that seems to make my monitors switch. Suddenly monitor 2 is working, and 1 is not. I don't know how that could possibly cause the switch, but it's the only thing I did at the time. Monitor 1 can now now be detected at all.

I got a new graphics card (gigabyte gtx 660) maybe a month ago but haven't had any problems with it thus far. I'm real confused. Help?

I've been sick so haven't had much time to try to work this problem out, but today got a bit of time to play around.

Either of my two monitors, plugged into the top slot on the graphics card works just fine. Either monitor, when plugged into the bottom slot, turns on, seems to be going fine, displays the windows loading screen, and as it gets to the 'start up' sound and log in screen, goes black and then displays a no signal message.

I'm not by any means great with computers, but that to me looks preeetty clearly like something's up with the graphics card, which I hope not, as I bought it a month ago! Does anyone have ideas for anything I could try before giving up and trying to get a refund or return on my graphics card?
