I have the key for windows but no disk and when I try to download it will not let me. It started when I used a easy laptop install kit. I tried to clone my hard drive so I could put a new M4 SSD in but it erased my hard drive. So I told a guy that works on laptops and he gave me a Linux Mint CD to use until I get some money for repairs. So don't by the easy laptop install kit from Crucial. Well I don't like it. PLEASE HELP!

Assuming you have Windows 7, you can download an ISO here: http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html

First up, the easy laptop install kit does work - I used it to transfer systems between drives when I upgraded my HTPC. I've also used the Samsung one as well with no issues - just always be aware which is the destination drive and which is the source drive.

As for getting a hold of the windows ISO's, much depends on exactly which ISO you're looking for. As Zooshooter said, the Win7 ISO is available there. If you're talking about an earlier version (Vista/XP/ME/98), that will be significantly more 'grey area', and probably the only place to find those would be out on the torrent sites.

One of the things you MUST do though is make sure you're downloading the correct VERSION, as your key will ONLY work with the associated version. In Win7/Vista, that means if you have (for example) 'home premium' or 'ultimate', you have to download the correct edition AND the appropriate 32 or 64 bit system - otherwise the key will not work. XP is much simpler - there is only the basic XP or Pro - then just upgrade to the appropriate service pack level.

Assuming you do this, the key you have SHOULD work. Now if you're having a problem downloading these and burning ISO's to DVD, you may just need to put down the mouse, and slowly back away from the keyboard as you probably shouldn't be working on computers at this level... ;)
