i recently just built my desktop and installed windows. i wish to connect my desktop directly to my internet modem. when i connect my Ethernet cable to the back of my desktop and to my modem nothing happens, i am not prompted to join any network. i tired the same thing with my laptop and it worked perfectly and i got internet access. how to i get the modem to work with my desktop like it did with my laptop? i don't think i have any CD for the modem as it is abit old. if anyone could please go through the steps of how to get my modem to work with my desktop i would be very grateful. thanks :)

As stated, it may be that you do not have your Ethernet network drivers installed if it is a fresh install of windows. If you do have them installed (check in Device Manager for yellow '?' next to components), then just open Control Panel, select Network Sharing Centre and select Change Adapter Settings on the left side. From there, just right click "Local area connection" and select Enable.
*Im assuming its Windows 7 :D *
