I am going to buy an SSD this month and i am getting mixed revies about the samsung 840 120gb for $120 cananyone recommend a good ssd the sae size and roughly the same price??? All i need it for is my OS and maybe 2 or 3 games the rest of the games will be on my HDD.
Can anyone recomend a good ssd??

I use two 120GB Samsung 840s in RAID 0 as my boot drive and they are excellent. If you are in the US, watch Newegg for sales. They go as low as $90.
I have also had a good experience with Kingston's HyperX and would recommend it, despite the lower MTBF.

I have a 120GB samsung 840 in a netbook and so far haven't had any issues. Samsung is one of the higher ranked companies right now when it comes to SSDs so I don't think you should worry.
I also have a 480GB Mushkin SSD in my main rig which hasn't given me any issues and is lightning fast, I know there are mixed reviews about that one but at least mine works

If you are just going to be reading from it, the low(er) write speed on the vanilla 840 isn't a big deal. The price difference between the 840 and 840 Pro was enough for me to buy the lesser drive, though that has a lot to do with the fact I was buying two of them. If you see the Pro on sale, get it. If you see the vanilla 840 on sale for the right price, get it.

Not a mixed review, its just slower then others. Find one that hits closer to 550MBs. I don't normally look for SSDs that small. My 470 and 840pro both hit near the limits for their respective interfaces. (I still want to get a fast SATA 3 SSD in the 480+GB range.)
Two 120GB 840s. I updated the firmware and then put them in RAID 0. I have sequential reads over 950MB/s. It's amazing. RAIDing the SSDs also sort of overcame the write speed issue, with the sequential at around 230MB/s. I have another RAID 0 of 1TB HDDs that I actually store my data on, so I am rarely writing to the SSD RAID anyway.

The more important aspect of the SSD is the iops, random read/write speeds. You pretty rarely move large sequential files so you will not notice a difference between 120MB/s vs 400+MB/s under normal circumstances if they both have roughly the same random speeds.

Idk, I don't notice any difference from when my windows build was on my Seagate 7200.10 drive (~70MBps) and my Samsung 470. (280MBps) I heard all kinds of awesome things about how great SSDs are, but to me it feels the same. Where I feel it is in loading games. I used to be able to get up and hit the bathroom and come back right as the level loads. Now its loading just as I get in the bathroom. I believe in my testing I found the SSD to load games 4x faster then my old drive. Not much waiting anymore.
I forgot to mention, I do a lot with ISOs and also work with Blender and GIMP a bit. These tasks benefit from the SSDs and the difference is blatantly noticeable. If you just using the system for gaming, browsing, and media consumption, then a high sequential read means a lot less to you.

You should notice a huge difference loading the actual operating system and programs. What you can do is have multiple programs load up on start and test it with an HDD and an SSD, the difference is very clear. Also installing programs on an SSD is a ton quicker than a regular HDD.

Perhaps, but I don't turn my machine off. Waking it back up has always been pretty fast. Cold boot is probably faster, but it happens so rarely. And I prefer to have my machine light. Only a few things load by default. One reason why I think changing from an old build on a hdd to a new build on an SSD seemed like such a small change. I keep my machine small and light, so I didn't have a huge bloated windows build.
